I just found out Ms. Dodie died. Just last week during a time of devotion, the thought of her came up as I was reminded how faithful she was to make her daily confessions of faith. Upon finding out I wondered why the news of her death, Thursday, July 30th did not make it to my feed. As I write I wondered why God placed her on my heart the week of her death. Whatever the reason, one thing is for certain.
The kingdom has shifted.
I say that Lord because last night God gave me the precious privilege of watching the Gaither Band, which included Mr. Gaither himself, minister at the Southwest Believers Convention hosted by none other than THE Kenneth Copeland.
As I watched, I was so filled with joy, and God's precious Holy Spirit, as tears welled in my eyes during the bulk of their performance. Pardon me, not performance. The Gaither Band does not perform. They minister.
I sang along as I relished in the thought that God had given me the privilege to experience pure worship. Pure ministry but I digress. But again, a major shift has happened.
If Ms. Dodie is in heaven, then we have lost some of God's goodness in the earth.
Mrs. Osteen (affectionately known as Momma Dodie) was proof of the goodness of God and what He could do with one yes.
She and Mr. John Osteen were that one yes and we can all attest to how He used them and their children. Now a bit of God's goodness has left the earth. Lord, have mercy on us that remain.
Mrs. Osteen was special to because when God first began to teach me about healing and making daily confessions, the Holy Spirit would always remind me of her. I admired her faithfulness because even after being cured of cancer,
she would tell of how she continued to make her confessions of faith, daily. Not because she was sick but because she wanted to keep her healing.
To have been able to glean from her from afar has forever marked my life.
I would watch her on YouTube as she and her daughter would pray. Each time she did I would think, "That was a pure prayer." Pure prayer is when you know the person praying is praying from a place with God, in God, that is pure. No motive. No directing some of it towards the listeners and lookers but from a pure place of love and concern.
Now she is gone, and once again, the kingdom has shifted.
The last shift occurred at the passing of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025, some 100 days before her passing.
Her prayers held back a lot of danger while ushering in God's goodness and tender mercies, of which included healing. Her continued intercession held back things from those who either didn’t know how to pray or decided not to.
The weight of her anointing is to be compared with that of Billy Graham…at least to me. She may not have filled stadiums but because of her prayers, her son, Joel Osteen, transformed an arena, and because of her intercession, Lakewood Church's praise and worship ministry was that which caused war in the heavenlies.
Yes, that little woman’s prayers and place with God brought forth the Joel Osteen’s, the Israel Houghton’s, the Cindy Cruse-Ratcliff’s, and the man who played the piano and guitar with heavenly precision, has and will forever shift the way the kingdom worships during time of war. God did that…through Mrs. Osteen, and I am forever grateful to have known about her.
To be able to watch Lakewood Church on television or online, as an intercessor, I found myself looking forward to seeing her, her son and others pray. I so needed to see someone else pray and looked forward to those five minutes they dedicated to prayer, every service. To see her on the front row and know there was someone who knew how to pray, brought me both comfort and joy.
God used her mightily and now she is with our Heavenly Father. Now she is with Him.
I thank God for allowing my walk of faith to have intersected with Mrs. Osteen and the Lakewood Church family.
But let us all pray that whatever we need to do or to become as a result of this kingdom shift, that we will be all God intended us to be. I pray that He would have mercy on us all and that He would help us to carry the torch so that we can continue to experience a level of goodness He so graciously used Mrs. Osteen to usher in for us. In Jesus’ name.
