Genesis 3:16 says, “To the woman He said: I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
Notice God told Eve her desire would be for her husband and that her husband would rule over her. Since Eve ‘was the mother of all living’ (Genesis 3:20), He was essentially saying the same thing to every woman – that every husband is to rule over his wife.
Rule means ‘to have dominion or power over.’ Thus, a husband is to rule, have dominion and power over his wife. So if you're single and considering becoming a wife, you need to know that God said your desire would be for your husband and that he would rule over you. Some of you may be thinking, ‘Yeah, that’s Old Testament though.’ You’re right - it is! But Ephesians 5:22 of the New Testament says, ‘Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.’ As a single woman, I know some may think I’m the last person to teach on this subject; but that’s actually untrue. If more single women knew what was expected of them by God; as it pertains to submission, they might not be in such a hurry to get married; I know many married women will agree. Having said that, single women - get ready and get your mind right! Married women, ask God to teach you how to submit; because truthfully, whether single or married, until you submit to God, you’ll never be able to submit to a man; no matter how rich, famous, and fine he may be.
PRAY THIS WITH ME: Heavenly Father, I understand that before I’ll ever be able to submit to my husband, that I first must be submitted to You; so will You teach me how to submit to You, in every area of my life? In Jesus’ name.
