Ugandan President Publicly Repents

Writer's picture: Staci SweetStaci Sweet

While scrolling through the Gram this afternoon, I saw a post from Fred Hammond that read,

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch. I don't know about you but after I watched it, I got on my knees and ugly cried. Yep! I ugly cried because I realized that on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 I had just witnessed a miracle. There he stood. The PRESIDENT OF A NATION…and not just any nation…an AFRICAN NATION. And not just any man… Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda. Uganda!!! There the President of Uganda stood repenting! I knew what I'd just witnessed HAD TO BE GOD because only He could have put it on a BLACK MAN’S HEART to repent for his country’s role in slavery. I have to write that again.

God put it on a BLACK MAN’S HEART to repent for his country’s role in slavery.

That can only be God!!!! God placed it on a BLACK MAN’S HEART TO REPENT FOR HIS COUNTRY’S ROLE IN AN ATROCITY that historically has been placed on white men; and rightfully so. But to appoint President Museveni to reveal to THEIR PART…and to PUBLICLY REPENT AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS – could only have come from God. Only. And though this was no secret to many, the COURAGE, BOLDNESS, AND MEEKNESS it took for him to do it publicly – ON TODAY – was again only God. ONLY!

If you took the time to watch the clip, then let me say it again. You just witnessed a modern-day miracle. You just saw the President of a nation publicly repent – IN JESUS’ NAME. And that wasn’t some politically correct speech filled with alot of historical data and finger pointing. Just pure repentance. In fact, this was a PRAYER.

A PUBLIC PRAYER OF REPENTANCE…by the PRESIDENT OF A NATION. A BLACK PRESIDENT OF A BLACK NATION.

I cannot write that enough because the totality and brevity of it is astronomical. So let me say it again.

You and I just personally witnessed a miracle. A NATIONAL MIRACLE. Think about that for a moment.

When I took the time to just sit in what just happened, all I could think about were THE PEOPLE and the fact that Ugandans are no longer under the curse and that they no longer have to be held by the wickedness that has bound the continent. They are officially free! Officially and spiritually free! Today all things have become new! Yet this does not apply to everyone on the continent. Only those who believe.

What happened today wasn't just another speech made by some President. That was a prayer, prayed by a man of God therefore it will have a generational impact. What President Yoweri Museveni did for his people is worth more any stimulus. It goes far beyond a war victory. He just liberated his people. He just spiritually liberated a nation.

To me that 2.44-minute prayer belongs in the Hebrews 11 Hall of Faith Fame.

That’s how significant this was to me…and I’m not from Africa. Though this happened in Africa – this was a KINGDOM VICTORY. A KINGDOM DECLARATION. Glory be to God!!! A KINGDOM DECLARATION made a BLACK PRESIDENT.

Only God could have done what we have seen today. If you ever wanted to see a miracle, let me be the first to say, YOU JUST DID. GOD is still working miracles! I thank Him for doing a national one through President Museveni and the Ugandan people. This was truly a historical day for the kingdom of God!

“We come in humility and brokenness to repent for the sins of leaders in Africa, and in particular, the sin of selling our own brothers and sisters into slavery. This great sin brought on great pain and misery to millions of people of African descent and the judgment to the African people who remained on the continent.”

“The grave sin of slavery scattered our people all over the face of the Earth, where they have suffered great deprivations and loss. If it were not for the parts that our African kings and chiefs played in the slave trade this evil trade could not have survived.

“Therefore, on behalf of all the African leaders (past and present), I acknowledge the part that we played in this tragedy and today we ask for forgiveness. We seek forgiveness for the great pain and loss that the myopic and the selfish decisions of our brothers and sisters of African descent around the world and we ask for their forgiveness. We plead the blood of Jesus to cleanse us all from this great sin.”

“Today we reopen the door to our brothers and sisters of African descent to return home to the continent of Africa, the land of their ancestry and the spiritual homeland of all African people. We welcome you home with open arms as brothers and sisters. We pray that we can close the door to the dark past and walk towards a better future.”
