Doodlebugs and the Wisdom of God

While on my morning walk, a little doodlebug hobbled across my path. Since I was a little girl, I’ve been a bug chaser. Therefore, when I saw this little bug veer in front of me, my first instinct was to put my foot on his back. But I decided I wasn’t going to step on the little doodster. I even thought, ‘I’m gonna let you make it across this street and enjoy your morning. Go live your life little doodlebug!’ As I walked along I started thinking about that little bug. I wondered what made me decide to let him get his doodle on. It’s because so many times, people have done me the same way. They see me going about my life, making strides and progressing along. As I do, they pop up out of nowhere and try to discourage, intimidate, or block my progression; all in an effort to try to ‘squash’ my hopes and dreams. Which is why I let the doodmister live another day. He already has it hard enough; having to navigate these streets scooching along.

In that moment, God reminded me of something I once heard Keith Moore, Pastor of Faith Life Church, say. He said that God will use animals, nature, and stars to try to convince people that He’s real. That it doesn’t matter if they’re in the farthest, remotest parts of the earth, He’ll use a lion or a lizard if He has too. Because that’s exactly what Psalm 148 speaks about. If God expects, ‘…sea creatures…beasts…and all cattle…creeping things and flying fowl’ to praise Him, then He can use those same creatures to teach us valuable life lessons. Take for instance the ant. Proverbs 6:6-8 says, ‘Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.’ I went to that doodlebug, considered his lifestyle, and gained some valuable insight. God is amazing, and I am so grateful that I got to experience the wisdom He puts in all creatures to show us just how much He loves us and just how much He wants us to win. That little bug taught me that whether I’m walking down a paved street or whether an African tribal princess is walking through the deepest, darkest jungle, that He will use lions, birds, and bugs to make sure we know He is real and that He is always present.
Pray this with me: Heavenly Father, I ask You for clarity, wisdom, and direction; even if You have to use a bug to get it to me. I thank You for it. In Jesus’ name.
