Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.’ Matthew 14:25
More than likely you’ve been in a situation like this. It’s late and you need an answer. You’re in too deep to walk away, so somethings gotta happen. Here’s Jesus, on the shore, between 3 and 6 in the morning, looking at the ocean and knowing that He has an appointment in a few hours, yet He lacks the transportation needed to get there. So what does He do? Unlike most of us, He didn’t throw a fit, panic, or leave the shore disgusted and discouraged. Me myself, I’d have sat there repenting over and over again; blaming myself for telling my employees to go ahead, not having secured my own accommodations. Then I would have commenced to concocting all type of plan B’s; not realizing that God had other travel arrangements in store. But thankfully, Jesus didn’t course correct. He simply waited for God’s plan.

You see, the entire time we’re readjusting our schedules and recalculating our budgets, God is waiting on us to get still enough so that He can give us His plan. There were no other boats going to Jesus’ destination that night. So instead of second guessing Himself or making other plans, He simply waited on God; even if it meant He had to stay on the shore until the fourth watch of the night. And because He did, God was able to give Him an unusual instruction. We know He had to have gotten this instruction from God, because no human would have thought that water walking was an option. No one. But yet and still, this is how God planned on getting Jesus there.
God intended for Jesus to miss that boat because He wanted to teach Jesus how to walk on water, which also meant teaching Him how to do things other people never imagine, think possible, or would even consider.
There are some things you’re believing God for that you won’t be able to figure out. You can’t put the pen to the paper, get counsel, or even qualify for a large enough loan to do what God has called you to do. So stop thinking about it. Stop trying to figure out how you’re going to pay that bill, kick that addiction, or feel good again. Just sit still long enough and let God give you the answer. And when it sounds insurmountable, difficult, or seemingly impossible to accomplish, know that it’s God and get ready to take water walking lessons.
Pray this with me: Heavenly Father, I cannot figure this thing out. I cannot think of a way to make this work. But I know this is You. Lord, help me to stop recalculating and recalibrating. And Lord I thank You ahead of time for the peace to get the answers I need, so that I can unmistakably know that I’m doing what You’re leading to. Thank You for teaching me how to walk on the water of my situation. In Jesus’ name.
