As discussed on yesterday, there will be opportunities when the enemy of your soul will use the same temptation against you that he used against Jesus. Of which will include suicide, talking yourself out of God-sent opportunities, self-sabotage, and him testing your man and/or womanhood. But you must do as your Lord did and not bite the bait. Because remember, after Satan told Jesus,
“If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
Jesus could have easily said to Himself, “Well, I know Michael, the arch angel, came and spoke to My mother personally and I know that the Word does say, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone, so I’mma just do it!” He could have even said, “This ninja must don’t know who I am.” Or, “Man, what he mean? If I am? Ninja I am the Son of God.” Jesus didn’t say any of that. The reason He didn’t is because He knew what the Word said and because He did, He didn’t misapply it out of pride.
Yes saints! There will be times in 2022 when you will be tempted to commit spiritual suicide out of pride. Only the pride will be subtle, in the sense that you’re not so prideful as to think you’re too strong to take your life. No, the pride will come through misapplication of the scriptures. And though we often don’t think misapplication isn’t serious, in this instance, it was a matter of life or death for the Lord.
Misapplication is why so many hyper-spiritual or deep Saints are where they are today. Deep saints ignorantly misapply the Word of God to their detriment. In fact, misapplication is what led them into hyper-spirituality and what has kept them there. Not only are they stuck in the land of deepness, but for some, they’re also stuck in mental illness which means they may be stuck in a mental institution. Simply because they’re so deep. But how did they get there?
They acted on the suicidal thoughts of Satan. Instead of using the Word as a weapon, they jumped off the ‘pinnacle of the temple’ and into hyper-spirituality, all because they didn’t know enough of the Word to counter the suicidal misapplied verses Satan used against them. In their attempt to impress, they made the Word say something that it didn’t say. Kinda like how Satan did with the Lord, only they had nothing to counter him with, and instead jumped headlong into the spiritual abyss of deepness. That’s why it’s not only vital that we know what the Word says for ourselves, but it’s also important that we are able to rightly divide it.
‘Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’ - 2 Timothy 2:15
You have to know the Word so well that you’re able to rightly divide one scripture versus another so that when you, or some well-meaning Pastor, prophet, evangelist, and/or teacher, mistakenly misapplies it, you know better. And I know this is a heavy word and is probably not what you want to hear this early in the year, but God’s not playing with us saints.
This will be the year that we eat meat and deal with Real Issues head on. So if you haven’t spent time in the Word today, I implore you to do so. In fact, I commend you for reading this issue. These issues can be added to the time you need to spend reading the Word and studying it for yourself.
Pray this with me: Heavenly Father, I do not want to misapply Your Word and make it say something that it doesn’t. Neither do I want to be naïve as to think the enemy of my soul won’t tempt me to self-sabotage and talk me out of doing what I know You’re leading me to do. So I ask that You teach me how to spend quality time with You and thank You for giving me the precious Holy Spirit to teach me how to rightly divide Your Word. In Jesus’ name.
